The parish of St Pius Xth in Withywood, Hartcliffe, Headley Park and Highridge was established, in 1956, to meet the needs of the rapidly growing catholic population as new housing went up in the south of the City of Bristol.
Mass has been celebrated in various locations since (including above the Elmtree pub and in the primary school hall!) before the current St Pius Xth Church building was erected in 1987.
Now on the one site, there is the Church, the former parish centre rented out to a community group and the Sartan Club (a social club whose members are drawn from the parish and local community). Sadly, St Pius Xth Primary School closed in July 2021.
Ecumenism and outreach is important to us as our Parish covers Withywood Church (Anglican and Methodist), St Andrews Cof E, Hartcliffe Methodist Church and The River of Life. We come together in Christian Witness and to serve our local community, especially those most in need (part of the parish is in the top 5% of the most deprived parts of the country).
