St Bernadette’s Church predominantly serves the areas of Whitchurch, Hengrove and Stockwood.
The Church was built in 1967 to serve the growing catholic community in South Bristol.
Innovative in design, the church is widely recognised by its unusual roof.
The church designed by James Leask of Kenneth Nealon, Tanner & Partners to accompany the Catholic school built on the centenary of the apparitions at Lourdes. Bold and innovative in design and materials, it features a double hyperbolic paraboloid roof carried on projecting concrete piers on a rotated square plan.
St Bernadette’s has recently undergone extensive restoration work and the newly restored building reopened on the 9th April 2022.
St Bernadette’s is a lively parish, with strong links with both St Bernadette primary and secondary school and other local churches.
Through our worship, ministries and outreach, we aim to be a parish that embodies the words of our parish vision, “In the Name of Jesus: Welcomed, Loved, Sent”.
